Art is not created just to delight our eyes, it also transfers ideas and provokes thoughts. The Austrian cartoonist Gerhard Haderer has been creating satirical illustrations for decades, highlighting why today’s society is so far from perfect.
Gerhard has even had to go to trial for one of his books, The Life of Jesus. It provoked violent reactions in the country, especially by the Catholic Church. The story culminated in 2005, when Haderer was imprisoned in Greece for insulting the religious community.
The artist developed his realistic style when he worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for advertising agencies at the beginning of his career. It was not until he had to undergo cancer surgery in 1985 when he abandoned his commercial dreams and became a freelance cartoonist and satirical illustrator.
